- Kai Rho Contracting received $235,000 in State Government funds through Round 6 of Regional Economic Development Grants program
- Funds used for new dual cab grader which will provide hands-on training for specialised final trim operators
- New piece of equipment will support local infrastructure projects
A local Aboriginal-owned and run Kalgoorlie business will be able to offer improved training opportunities courtesy of the Cook Labor Government's Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program.
Kai Rho Contracting, which works for the betterment of local Aboriginal communities, has used a $235,000 RED grant to help purchase a new dual cab grader, which will play a key role in providing hands-on training for operators in final trim grading.
Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael visited the Kalgoorlie company yesterday where it proudly unveiled the new piece of equipment.
The grader will enable on-the-job training in final trim techniques, meeting the growing demand for skilled operators in the region.
It will be used across most of the company's civil projects, offering valuable training opportunities for local operators and those seeking certification in both final trim operations and grader ticketing.
As the only company in the region offering this specialised training, Kai Rho Contracting is dedicated to increasing the number of skilled operators to support local infrastructure projects.
Round 8 of the RED Grants program is now open for projects that support industry expansion or diversification, develop skills, and increase productivity.

Comments attributed to Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael:
"The investment in Kai Rho Contracting's new dual cab grader is a great example of how RED grants are helping businesses improve their operations while addressing critical skill shortages and specialised training.
"The project not only boosts local employment and training but also ensures that regional civil projects have access to a highly skilled and capable workforce."
Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
"The RED Grants program is a great initiative because it helps regional companies secure the capital they need to support and grow their business, train and employ more workers, and economically benefit their local communities.
"I urge other companies in the Goldfields to explore the opportunities through the RED Grants program and apply to access funding that can help them boost their businesses."
